The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 took the entire world by surprise. The devastating effects were felt in every major city and it turned the healthcare industry on its head. One of the most needed items in hospitals on the frontlines was personal protective equipment (PPE), including surgical masks. The melt-blown fabric used for medical surgical masks is created by blowing hot compressed purified air which is heated using brazed plate heat exchangers.
A global need for surgical masks
During the COVID-19 outbreak, there is a massive increase in demand for medical surgical masks globally. Frontline medical staff rely on this personal protective equipment (PPE) as their "armor" to protect from the virus. Surgical facial masks act as an effective and essential barrier to liquids, particulate matter and bacteria.
Mask production is a complex process
BAOSI Purification, a well-known gas processing manufacturer based in China, specialises in the production of ultra clean compressed air purifier equipment used in the manufacturing of surgical masks.
The heart of a surgical mask is the melt-blown fabric that covers the face and filters bacteria to prevent the spread of germs.
Hot compressed purified air is required to blow the molten polymer injected from the die hole. The compressed air must be strictly controlled to prevent the surgical facial masks from being contaminated by oil in the compressed air. The clean room must also be protected from diffused contamination from compressed air that is not completely purified.
The 0-level oil-free compressed air purifier manufactured by BAOSI is an ideal solution to achieve oil-free air during the melt-blown fabric processing. To guarantee the reliability and low pressure drop of the purifier, the demand for component operation is very high.
